Overview

The SX-SDWAG is an 802.11a/b/g radio/baseband SDIO wireless module designed specifically for OEM embedded appllications.  Features include:

  • Ultracompact SDIO form factor
  • Very low power consumption for applications like battery operated devices
  • Diversity antenna support

Features

The SX-SDWAG is the world's first 802.11a/b/g WLAN module in an SDIO card form factor. With a minimum sleep mode  power consumption of just 3mA, the SX-SDWAG is ideal for battery-operated portable devices in wireless local area network (WLAN) applications in the medical, weights and measures, transportation and other industries.

Unlike WLAN SDIO cards that are intended for use in PDAs, the SX-SDWAG is specifically aimed at OEM applications. It includes diversity antenna connectors for improved radio reception and flexibility in antenna selection, and it supports an extended temperature range of -40 to +70 degrees C. The SX-SDWAG’s 802.11a 5GHz capabilities allow it to be used in enterprise environments such as hospitals, where interference from 2.4GHz devices like microwave ovens must be minimized. Silex also offers driver porting and consulting services for Linux, Windows CE, and other operating systems, as well as custom hardware design capabilities.

Measuring just 0.94 x 1.68 x 0.08 inches (24 x 42.7 x 2.1mm), the SX-SDWAG is slightly longer than a standard SD memory card. Because it has a standard SDIO form factor, OEMs can use off-the-shelf SDIO mounting hardware and test equipment to expedite the development process.

The SX-SDWAG implements half-duplex OFDM, CCK and DSSS base-band processing supporting all IEEE 802.11a/b/g data rates. The MAC supports the IEEE 802.11 wireless MAC protocol as well as 802.11i security, receive and transmit filtering, error recovery, and quality of service (QoS).

  • Linux, Windows CE 6.0, and Windows Mobile drivers available from Silex (porting will be required in most cases); other drivers can be developed on a custom basis
  • Green Hills INTEGRITY RTOS drivers (http://www.ghs.com/products/comm_wireless.html )
  • Compatible with Sourceforge (Linux) and Codeplex (WinCE) Open Source drivers

Custom Driver Development

Because of the many hardware and software variables (for example, processor type, I/O controller, operating system version, etc.) there is no "one size fits all" driver for the SX-SDWAG. As a result, SIlex offers custom programming services to port our drivers to your hardware platform. We have significant experience with Linux, Windows CE, VxWorks, pSOS, ITRON, and other real-time operating systems, so we can get the job done quickly and efficiently.
